The Umuohieukwu/Umukabi Medical Centre was established out of necessity following a tragic incident that occurred during one of the empowerment programmes organised by High Chief Emeka Eziakonwa, Ikemba Ngor Okpala, in Umuohieukwu.

A community member who required urgent medical attention needed to be transported to a hospital. Unfortunately, the nearest hospital at the time was located in Mbaise, and the patient passed away before reaching the facility. This heartbreaking event highlighted the urgent need for accessible healthcare within the community — and became the catalyst for the establishment of UUMC.

The primary objective of the centre is to provide a standard healthcare facility closer to the people of the community, ensuring timely access to quality medical care.

Established under the umbrella of the Michael Eziakonwa Foundation, with H.R.H. Eze Obinna Eziakonwa serving as Chairman, the medical centre operates as a non-profit institution — providing free medical services to identified indigent members of the community, and directing a significant portion of profits towards Community Development Initiatives.
